Bandō is a city located in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. As of February 1, 2012, the city has an estimated population of 56,015, with 18,000 households and a population density of 454.74 persons per km². The modern city of Bandō was established on March 22, 2005, from the merger of the city of Iwai, and the town of Sashima .
